What does furniture cost in Australia?
In the value segment of Australian online furniture, most single items land between $100 and $650. Sofas and lounges are the biggest ticket, with a median of $630 and a typical range of $356–$885. Bedroom furniture runs cheaper: the median bed frame is $270, the median mattress $276, and a chest of drawers or tallboy sits at a median of $179. Bundled buying commands a premium for convenience — bed and mattress packages carry a median of $541, against $546 for the median frame and mattress bought separately, which is why the discount on any specific package matters more than the bundle format itself. How much should you budget for a full room?
Using category medians, a complete value-segment bedroom — bed frame, mattress, tallboy and two bedside tables — totals about $930. A living room of sofa, coffee table and TV unit comes to roughly $990. A dining room of table plus a set of chairs is about $640. How is the index calculated?
The index is generated from a full snapshot of the live Simple Deals catalogue — 30,124 published products in August 2026. For each product we take the lowest listed variant price, group products into categories by product type, and report the minimum, median and interquartile range per category. Categories with fewer than eight products are excluded. Two honest caveats: these figures describe value-segment, import-direct online furniture, so they run well below department-store and boutique retail averages; and "from" prices at the bottom of a category often represent compact or single-piece items rather than typical family-size products — the median and typical range are the better reference points.
