Nailers

Nail guns turn a two-hour job into twenty minutes. Once you own one you wonder how you did anything without one. Our range covers brad nailers for trim, finish nailers for cabinetry, framing nailers for rough construction and pin nailers for delicate work. Nail guns from $189, with most quality cordless models between $249 and $599. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days.

What's the difference between a brad nailer and a finish nailer?

Brad nailers shoot 18-gauge brads — thin, small-headed, almost invisible in finished timber. They're for lightweight trim, quarter-round, and small crown. Finish nailers shoot 15- or 16-gauge nails — thicker, with a bigger head, stronger hold. They're for larger crown moulding, chair rail and cabinet installation. If you're doing both trim and cabinets, you need both. Buying a brad nailer expecting to install cabinets, or a finish nailer for delicate trim, is the most common wasted purchase in this category.

What types of nailers are available?

Type Best for Nail size Price guide
18-gauge brad Trim, skirting, quarter-round 15–50mm $189–$449
16-gauge finish Cabinet backs, crown, chair rail 25–65mm $249–$599
15-gauge angled Stair treads, thick trim, hardwood 30–65mm $349–$699
Framing nailer Wall framing, decks, rough carpentry 50–90mm spike $349–$899
Pin nailer (23-gauge) Fine trim, glue-and-hold 15–35mm $189–$449

Do you need a compressor for a nail gun?

For pneumatic nailers, yes — you need a compressor. For cordless gas or lithium-battery nailers, no. Cordless nailers are heavier, cost more upfront, and use consumables (gas cartridges) but they run anywhere. If you're doing workshop-based cabinet or trim work, pneumatic is cheaper long-term. If you're mobile between sites, cordless is essential. A 20L compressor handles all trim and finish nailers. Framing nailers want 25–30L to keep up with rapid firing.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Gauge for the job: 18ga for trim, 16ga for cabinets, framing spikes for structural
  • Drive mechanism: Pneumatic cheapest, cordless most flexible
  • Depth adjustment: Dial-in depth stops overdrive marks
  • No-mar tip: For soft timber and painted surfaces
  • Magazine capacity: Bigger = less reload time on runs
  • Sequential vs bump firing: Sequential for accuracy, bump for speed on framing

Can I use a nail gun on Australian hardwood?

Yes, but nail length and gauge matter. Australian hardwoods (jarrah, ironbark, spotted gum) require premium gas-actuated or 15-gauge angled nailers for reliable set-through. Cheap pneumatics leave the head proud in dense hardwood. Check the tool's rated timber density before buying for a hardwood job. For softwood (pine, oak), most pneumatic nailers work fine.

How much do nailers cost in Australia?

Nail guns at Simple Deals start from $189 for pneumatic brad nailers. Most quality cordless models sit between $249 and $599, with framing nailers and premium cordless kits running higher. All items dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.

What most sites won't admit

Almost every nail gun sold in Australia is manufactured in China, Taiwan or Japan — including ours. The real difference is not where the nailer is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.

The other thing nobody clears up is gauge compatibility. Beginners often buy an 18-gauge brad nailer expecting to also frame a deck with it. 18-gauge brads are too thin for structural work and will pull straight out of framing timber under load. Meanwhile, buyers who want to install skirting with a framing nailer split the timber every time. The gauges are not interchangeable, and the marketing rarely explains which nailer is for which job because retailers want you to buy multiple. Buy the right tool once instead of the wrong tool three times.

Frequently asked questions

What if my nailer arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with boxed nailers.

Does the nailer come with nails?
Most nailers ship with a small trial pack. Full boxes of nails are sold separately — check the gauge and length match your tool before buying.

How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $349 cordless brad nailer works out to four payments of $87.25 with Afterpay, four payments of $87.25 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $29 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.

What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unopened nailers in original packaging.

Complete the carpentry kit

A nailer sits alongside the rest of the finish carpentry setup. A few things go with it. Most workshop owners add three at the same time: an air compressor for pneumatic nailers, power tools for drills, drivers and saws, and sanders for finishing after the nailer.
