Dishwashers

A dishwasher is one of the highest time-saving appliances in any home — typically 30–60 minutes of daily cleanup time recovered, plus better hygiene than hand-washing (the 60–70°C wash sanitises dishes properly, which is hard to achieve in the sink). Our range covers full-size freestanding dishwashers (60cm wide), slimline dishwashers (45cm wide), benchtop and portable dishwashers, built-in integrated dishwashers, and dishdrawer-style units. Over 40 dishwashers in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $400 entry-level benchtops to $1,500 premium 14-place freestanding units. Most orders dispatch within 1–2 business days.

What size dishwasher do I need?

Match place settings to household size. A benchtop dishwasher (6 place settings) suits singles and couples in small kitchens — sits on the counter, plumbs into the kitchen tap, holds about a day of dishes for two. A slimline 45cm freestanding (9–10 place settings) suits couples and small families — fits in narrow kitchens and apartments. A standard 60cm freestanding (13–14 place settings) suits families of 3–5 — the workhorse default for most Australian homes. A 60cm built-in (14–15 place settings) integrates flush with cabinetry for kitchens designed around it — same capacity as freestanding but cleaner appearance. Dishdrawer units (twin drawers, each 6–7 settings) suit households who run small loads frequently — you can run one drawer for breakfast and another for dinner separately.

What dishwasher types are available?

Type Best for Capacity Price guide
Benchtop / portable Singles, apartments 6 settings $400–$700
Slimline freestanding (45cm) Couples, narrow kitchens 9–10 settings $500–$900
Standard freestanding (60cm) Most families 12–14 settings $500–$1,200
Premium freestanding (60cm) Large families, low noise 14–15 settings $1,000–$1,500
Built-in integrated Designed-in kitchens 14–15 settings $800–$1,500
Dishdrawer (twin) Frequent small loads 12–14 settings total $1,200–$2,000

What features actually matter day to day?

Wash programs aren't all equal. The features that make a daily difference are: a quick-wash program (28–60 minutes) for lightly soiled dishes — used 60–80% of the time in real homes vs the 2–3 hour eco programs; a half-load option for couples running less than full loads; a 3rd cutlery tray (at the top) which adds 25–40% more usable space than the basket-style cutlery holder; flexible tine adjustment for fitting awkward items like pots and oversize plates; and salt and rinse-aid dispensers (Australian water is hard in most cities — these prevent water marks and scale buildup on dishes). Premium features like steam dry, beam-on-floor indicators, app connectivity and zone wash are nice but rarely change daily use enough to justify $300–500 of premium. Spend the budget on capacity and reliability rather than smart features.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Place settings: 12–14 for families; 6–9 for couples
  • Wash programs: Quick wash (30–60 min) is the most-used; check it exists
  • Water rating: 4+ stars saves 30–40% on water bills over 10 years
  • Energy rating: 4+ stars similar electricity savings
  • Noise level: Under 45dB for open-plan kitchens (newer homes)
  • 3rd cutlery tray: Significant capacity boost over basket cutlery
  • Salt and rinse-aid: Essential for Australian hard water areas

How much should I spend on a dishwasher?

Realistic ballpark: under $500 buys a benchtop or basic freestanding 45cm — fine for occasional use. $500–800 covers a quality standard-size freestanding 60cm with all essential features — the sweet spot for most Australian families. $800–1,200 enters mid-range territory with quieter operation (40–42dB), better energy ratings, and longer warranties. $1,200–1,800 buys premium dishwashers with the lowest noise (38–40dB), best dry results (proper steam or heat element drying), and 10–15 year design lifespan. Beyond $1,800, premium brands like Miele and Bosch enter long-term-value territory where the upfront cost recovers over 12–18 years of trouble-free use. For most households, the $700–1,100 range is the practical sweet spot.

What most appliance stores won't admit

Almost every dishwasher sold in Australia is made in Europe (Germany, Poland, Turkey) or China — including ours. Even premium brand-name dishwashers (Bosch, Westinghouse, Beko, Fisher & Paykel) are manufactured in those regions and shipped to Australia. The real difference is not where the dishwasher is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.

The other thing nobody mentions: most dishwasher complaints about "not cleaning properly" trace back to two preventable causes — not the dishwasher quality. First, blocked filters: the mesh filter at the base of the wash chamber traps food debris and needs rinsing weekly (a 2-minute job). Skip it for 3–6 months and the wash spray arms can't deliver clean water. Second, no rinse aid: in Australia's hard water, rinse aid is essential for water sheet-off and clean drying. Without it, even an expensive dishwasher leaves water marks. Both fixes are free — just regular filter cleaning and a $5 bottle of rinse aid per 2–3 months. With this care, even mid-range dishwashers perform like premium units.

Frequently asked questions

What if my dishwasher arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Dishwashers ship on pallets; check the carton for visible damage and the door seal on receipt.

Do you install dishwashers?
Delivery is to your door only. Installation requires plumbing connection (hot or cold water inlet, drain) and is best handled by a licensed plumber. Benchtop and portable dishwashers can be installed by anyone (connect to the kitchen tap with a quick-release adapter).

How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days. Full-size dishwashers take 1–2 days longer due to freight handling.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $900 dishwasher works out to four payments of $225 with Afterpay, four payments of $225 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $75 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.

What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on uninstalled dishwashers in original packaging.

Complete the kitchen setup

A dishwasher handles cleanup, and a few pieces round out the kitchen appliances. Most kitchen renovations add three at the same time: a fridge for daily food storage, an oven for baking and roasting, and a washing machine for the laundry side.
