Office Desks

An office desk gets used for hours every day, so the surface size and how much weight the top can carry matter more than the styling. We stock over 400 office desks — straight desks, corner and L-shape desks, computer desks with storage, and compact home office designs — from around $95, with most sitting between $100 and $200. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, so orders dispatch within 1-2 business days.

What size office desk do I need?

Most office desks range from 90cm to 150cm wide, and the right width depends on your setup. A 90–100cm desk suits a laptop and a small home office corner. A 120cm desk fits a monitor, keyboard and room to write alongside. A 140–150cm desk suits dual monitors or a monitor plus paperwork. Measure the space before ordering and allow at least 80cm of clear floor behind the desk so a chair can roll back comfortably.

What types of office desks are there?

Office desks come in four main shapes, and the room usually decides which one fits. A straight desk is the simplest and most affordable, and sits flat against a wall. An L-shape desk wraps around one corner and gives you two work zones — useful if you split a computer and a paperwork area. A corner desk is built specifically to fill a room corner and is the best use of space in a small office. A computer desk usually adds built-in shelves, a drawer or a keyboard tray, which suits a study or a desk that doubles as storage. Match the shape to the room rather than buying the largest desk that will fit.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Measure first: Check the desk width and the clear floor space behind it for a chair
  • Desktop thickness: Thicker tops resist sagging under monitors — see below
  • Storage needs: Choose a computer desk with drawers or shelves if you need it
  • Cable management: Check for a cable port or gap if you run several devices
  • Assembly time: Budget 30–60 minutes with basic tools
  • Flat-pack delivery: All desks ship boxed and fit through 80cm doorways

How thick should an office desk top be?

An office desk top should be at least 18mm thick if you plan to put a monitor on it, and 25mm or thicker if you run dual monitors or heavy equipment — this is the detail most retailers leave out. Budget desks under $150 often use a 15mm MDF top, which can bow in the middle under the sustained weight of a monitor and develop a visible dip within a year. Each product page lists the desktop thickness. If your monitor, screen mount and gear add up to more than about 20kg, check that figure before buying rather than assuming every desk is built for it.

How much does an office desk cost in Australia?

Office desks at Simple Deals start from around $95 for compact 90–100cm computer desks. Most straight and L-shape desks sit between $100 and $200, with larger corner desks and timber designs running higher. Standing desks and motorised sit-stand frames are priced separately. All desks dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.

What most furniture sites won't admit

Almost every office desk sold online in Australia is imported from China, Vietnam, Malaysia or Indonesia — including ours. Where the desk is made is not the real difference between online furniture retailers. What matters is what happens after the stock lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from an overseas container, which is why their "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there — the same imported desk, dispatched in 1–2 business days.

Frequently asked questions

What if my office desk arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with flat-pack desks, and we work to resolve any claim quickly.

Can an office desk hold a monitor and equipment?
Yes, as long as the desktop thickness suits the weight. An 18mm top handles a single monitor; a 25mm or thicker top suits dual monitors and heavier gear. Check the thickness on the product page.

How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $160 office desk works out to four payments of $40 with Afterpay, four payments of $40 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $14 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.

What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unassembled desks in original packaging.

Complete your office

An office desk is the starting point, and a few pieces finish the setup. Most buyers add three at the same time: a office chair set to the right height for the desk, a standing desk if they want to alternate sitting and standing, and a filing cabinet to keep paperwork off the desktop.
