Power tools split people into brand-loyalists (Makita, Milwaukee, Ryobi) and price-first buyers who want a drill that works today. Our range covers cordless drills, impact drivers, angle grinders, circular saws and combo kits across brands and price points. Power tools from $79, with most quality drills between $149 and $399. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days.
What voltage cordless drill do I need?
18V is the sweet spot for most household work — enough torque for drilling through hardwood and driving lag bolts, small enough to work overhead, wide battery availability. 12V drills are lighter but underpowered for anything past pilot holes. 36V and 40V are pro-grade — overkill for weekend jobs and heavy in the hand. For a general home use drill, 18V brushless with a 4Ah battery covers 90% of what most owners actually do. Save your money on the battery pack size (2Ah is fine for weekend use) and put it into a brushless motor instead.
What types of power tools are available?
| Tool | Best for | First-buy spec | Price guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cordless drill | First tool for everyone | 18V, brushless, 4Ah | $149–$399 |
| Impact driver | Deck screws, cladding | 18V, brushless | $179–$379 |
| Angle grinder | Metal, tile cutting, rust removal | 125mm, cordless preferred | $99–$299 |
| Circular saw | Timber, decking, ply | 18V or corded 184mm | $149–$399 |
| Combo kit | New setup, first-house | Drill + driver + charger | $299–$799 |
Are brushless power tools worth the extra money?
For monthly-plus use, yes. Brushless motors deliver more torque per charge (about 30% more work per battery), run cooler so they last longer, and often have a smaller physical size for the same power. For once-a-year house use, brushed is fine and $80–$150 cheaper. If you are building an ecosystem of 4+ tools, all-brushless pays back within 2–3 years. The trap to avoid: brands that label tools "brushless" but use hybrid designs with partial brushes. The tell is warranty length — genuinely brushless tools carry 3-year motor warranties from the big brands.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Voltage: 18V for general use, 12V for tight spaces, 36V+ for pro work
- Brushless motor: Worth the premium on tools you will use monthly
- Battery ecosystem: Pick one brand and stay in it
- Torque rating: 40Nm for household drilling; 70Nm+ for lag bolts
- Chuck size: 13mm handles hole saws and augers
- Warranty: 3 years from Bosch, Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt via Aussie service networks
What's the best combo kit for a new home owner?
An 18V brushless drill and impact driver combo with two 4Ah batteries, charger and case is the sensible first-buy. That covers 95% of household jobs — hanging shelves, assembling furniture, deck maintenance, mounting curtains, driving screws for a renovation. Add an angle grinder later when you need one for a specific job. Avoid mega-combo kits with 5+ tools unless you already know you will use all of them — most sit unused.
How much do power tools cost in Australia?
Power tools at Simple Deals start from $79 for single-tool bare units. Most quality drills sit between $149 and $399, combo kits from $299 to $799, and complete workshop setups running higher. All items dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most sites won't admit
Almost every cordless power tool sold in Australia is manufactured in China, Malaysia or Mexico — including ours. The real difference is not where the tool is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody explains is that "brushless" now means different things at different price points. True brushless motors have no carbon brushes and deliver 3–5x longer motor life. Some cheaper brands label tools "brushless" when they use hybrid designs with partial brushes — legally accurate, technically not what the tradesperson thinks they are buying. The tell is warranty length. A properly brushless drill from Makita or Milwaukee has a 3-year motor warranty. A hybrid "brushless" cheapie has 12 months.
Frequently asked questions
What if my power tool arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with boxed tools.
How long do lithium-ion batteries last?
500–1,000 charge cycles before capacity drops. In household use (20 charges a year), that is 25+ years of light use. In daily trade use, 3–5 years.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $399 brushless drill kit works out to four payments of $99.75 with Afterpay, four payments of $99.75 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $34 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 30-day change-of-mind returns on unopened tools in original packaging.
Complete the workshop
A drill is the start of a workshop. A few things follow. Most workshop owners add three at the same time: an air compressor for nailers and tyres, sanders for finish work, and outdoor storage for tools that live in the shed.
