A fridge is the one appliance every Australian home depends on every day — and the one most worth getting right, since they last 10–15 years and run 24/7. Our range covers French door fridges, top-mount and bottom-mount refrigerators, side-by-side fridges, single-door fridges, and mini bar fridges. Over 130 fridges in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $400 small fridges for apartments to $2,500 large French door family fridges. Most orders dispatch within 1–2 business days.
What size fridge does my household need?
Match litres to people, with a margin. The standard guidance: 100–150L per adult is enough; add 50L for each additional family member or anyone who batch-cooks or entertains. So a single person fits in a 200–300L fridge; couples need 350–450L; families of 3–4 need 450–550L; families of 5+ or households that cook in bulk benefit from 550L+. Going too small means cramming the shelves (poor airflow, food spoils faster); going significantly too big means paying 30–60% more in running costs for unused space. Total capacity (the marketing number) includes both fridge and freezer compartments — the fridge portion is typically 70–80% of the total. Always check the fridge-only litres if you have specific cold storage needs.
What types of fridges are available?
| Type | Best for | Capacity | Price guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| French door fridge | Families, wide shelves | 500–700L | $1,200–$2,500 |
| Bottom-mount fridge | Most-used items at eye level | 350–550L | $700–$1,500 |
| Top-mount fridge | Budget-friendly, traditional | 250–550L | $500–$1,200 |
| Side-by-side fridge | Narrow doorways, ice and water | 500–700L | $1,300–$2,500 |
| Single-door fridge | Apartments, second fridges | 200–400L | $400–$900 |
| Mini bar fridge | Bedrooms, offices, bars | 50–150L | $200–$500 |
French door, top-mount, or bottom-mount?
Door configuration affects daily use more than most buyers expect. Top-mount fridges (freezer on top, fridge below) are the cheapest and most reliable design — fewer parts to fail, energy-efficient, but the fridge section requires bending down to reach lower shelves. Bottom-mount fridges (fridge on top, freezer drawer below) put the most-used compartment at eye level, which suits anyone using the fridge more than the freezer (most households). French door fridges (two side-by-side doors on top, freezer drawer below) suit wide doorways and large families — the double doors mean less cold air loss when opening one side. Side-by-side fridges work in narrow doorways (the doors swing only half as wide) but the long narrow shelves don't fit pizza boxes or wide platters. For most Australian families upgrading from an older top-mount, a bottom-mount or French door is the practical step up.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Capacity: 100–150L per adult plus 50L per extra person
- Energy rating: 4-star+ saves 30–50% on running costs over 12 years
- Width: Standard 60–70cm; check doorway clearance for delivery
- Depth: Standard 65–70cm; counter-depth models (55cm) cost more but sit flush
- Height: Standard 170–185cm; check above cabinets and ceiling height
- Reversible door: Useful if kitchen layout might change; not all models offer it
- Ice and water: Plumbed dispensers need cold water connection; standalone OK if not
How much should I spend on a fridge?
Realistic ballpark: under $700 buys a small or basic fridge for apartments or single people. $700–1,200 covers a quality 4-star rated 400–500L bottom-mount or top-mount — the sweet spot for families. $1,200–1,800 enters mid-range 500–600L French door territory with better energy ratings and features (water dispenser, smart controls). $1,800–2,500 buys premium 600L+ French door fridges with the best efficiency, longest warranties, and premium features. Spending more than $2,500 enters luxury territory (Liebherr, Miele) where the value proposition is design and longevity more than function. For most households, the $1,000–1,500 range is the practical sweet spot.
What most appliance stores won't admit
Almost every fridge sold in Australia is made in Asia — typically Korea, China or Thailand — including ours. Even premium brand-name fridges (Samsung, LG, Bosch, Westinghouse, Haier, Hisense) are manufactured in those regions and shipped to Australia. The real difference is not where the fridge is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: fridge energy ratings are tested at 25°C ambient temperature. In a typical Brisbane, Perth or Darwin kitchen sitting at 30–34°C in summer, the compressor runs 30–50% longer than the rated cycle, increasing real-world electricity use significantly above the rating sticker. The star rating is still useful for comparing models against each other, but actual running costs are typically 25–40% higher in warm climates. Choose at least a 4-star fridge if you live north of Sydney — the higher upfront cost recovers in 3–5 years of electricity savings.
Frequently asked questions
What if my fridge arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Fridges ship on pallets; check the carton for visible damage and the cooling fins for dents before signing the delivery docket.
How long until the fridge is ready to use?
Let a new fridge stand upright for 4 hours after delivery before plugging in (the compressor oil needs to settle). Once on, allow 4–6 hours to reach operating temperature before loading food.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days. Fridges over 400L take 1–3 days longer due to two-person delivery requirements.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $1,200 fridge works out to four payments of $300 with Afterpay, four payments of $300 with PayPal Pay in 4, or $100 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unused fridges in original packaging. Compressors usually carry a separate 5–10 year warranty listed on the product page.
Complete the kitchen setup
A fridge anchors the kitchen, and a few pieces round out the appliances. Most households buying a fridge also add three at the same time: a freezer for bulk storage, a dishwasher for cleanup, and a washing machine and dryer for the laundry side.
