Nursing Pillows

A nursing pillow brings the baby up to a comfortable feeding height, takes the weight off your arms and shoulders, and supports your back during the long feeding sessions of the first months. Our range covers C-shape feeding pillows, wraparound nursing pillows with belts, twin nursing pillows for double feeding, and combination feeding-and-tummy-time pillows. Nursing pillows from $40, with most quality nursing pillows between $60 and $120. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days.

Do I really need a nursing pillow?

It is not strictly essential, but most parents who try one keep using it. Newborn feeds last 20–40 minutes and happen every 2–3 hours — in the first 8 weeks, you are feeding for around 6–8 hours a day. Without a pillow, your arms and shoulders carry the baby's weight at chest height for all of those hours, and the resulting neck and upper-back pain is one of the most common complaints from new parents. The pillow holds the baby up to the breast or bottle level, freeing your arms. After feeding finishes, the same pillow doubles as a tummy-time prop and a sitting-support cushion as the baby grows.

What types of nursing pillows are available?

Type Best for Use after feeding Price guide
C-shape pillow Most users Tummy time, sitting prop $40–$80
Wraparound with belt Slippery pillow problem Sitting prop $60–$110
Firm support pillow Larger babies, twins Sitting prop $80–$120
Twin nursing pillow Tandem feeding twins Twin tummy time $120–$200
Travel feeding pillow Out and about Portable support $40–$80

How do I use a nursing pillow correctly?

The most common mistake is bringing the breast or bottle down to the baby on the pillow — the pillow should bring the baby up to you, not the other way around. Sit upright in a chair or against a headboard. Wrap the pillow around your waist so it sits snug, not loose. Place the baby on the pillow with their head at breast or bottle level, their body turned to face you, and their ear, shoulder and hip in a straight line. The pillow should hold the baby's weight; your hands guide rather than support. If you are leaning forward to reach the baby, the pillow is too low — add a thinner cushion underneath.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Firmness: Firm enough to hold baby weight without collapsing
  • Belt or strap: Stops the pillow sliding during use
  • Cover: Removable, machine-washable cover is essential
  • Size: Fits around your waist comfortably
  • Reflux support: Some pillows tilt upward for babies with reflux
  • Travel: Compact pillows pack into a nappy bag if needed

How long will I use a nursing pillow?

Most parents use a nursing pillow for the first 4–6 months — the period when feeds are long and frequent and the baby cannot yet sit up. By 6 months, feeds are shorter (the baby is more efficient) and the baby has more head and neck control, so the pillow becomes optional. From 6 to 9 months, many parents repurpose the same pillow as a sitting support — babies who are starting to sit but not stable on their own can be propped against the pillow. By 9–12 months, most pillows go into storage. If you are planning more children, the same pillow lasts through 2–3 babies easily.

How much do nursing pillows cost in Australia?

Nursing pillows at Simple Deals start from $40 for compact C-shape pillows. Most wraparound and firm support pillows sit between $60 and $120, with twin nursing pillows running higher. All pillows dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.

What most sites won't admit

Almost every nursing pillow sold online in Australia is imported from China — including ours. The real difference is not where the pillow is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.

The other thing nobody mentions: pillow height matters more than the brand on the cover. A pillow that ends up too low (after compression with the baby's weight) defeats the point — you still hunch forward and your back still aches. Firm-fill pillows hold height better than soft-fill, particularly for larger babies. If you are bottle-feeding (the partner is also using it) or have a bigger baby, choose firmer fill, even if it feels too firm in the shop.

Frequently asked questions

What if my pillow arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with packaged pillows.

Is the cover washable?
Most nursing pillow covers are removable and machine-washable on cold. The inner pillow itself is usually spot-clean only — check the care label.

How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. An $80 nursing pillow works out to four payments of $20 with Afterpay, four payments of $20 with PayPal Pay in 4, or a small monthly amount with Zip. Klarna is also available.

What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unused pillows in original packaging.

Complete the feeding setup

A nursing pillow handles feeding comfort, and a few pieces round out the feeding station. Most parents add three at the same time: a nursing chair for upright support, a maternity pillow for sleep, and a cot for between feeds.
