Kettlebells and Weights

Home gyms exploded during lockdowns and never really unwound. Kettlebells, dumbbells and weight plates are now the most-searched piece of home fitness gear in Australia. Our range covers cast iron competition kettlebells, vinyl-coated home sets, adjustable dumbbells and Olympic-standard weight plates. Weights from $29, with most quality kettlebell sets between $89 and $299. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days.

What size kettlebell should a beginner buy?

For most women new to kettlebells, 8kg is the right starting weight. For most men new to kettlebells, 12kg is the right starting weight. Under-buying is more common than over-buying in this category — kettlebells that feel easy in the first session teach you nothing by the second week. If in doubt, size up rather than down. You will grow into it in weeks. Buying a whole set at once is usually a mistake for beginners; two kettlebells (a starter weight and one 4–8kg heavier) cover months of programming.

What types of weights are available?

Type Best for Weight range Price guide
Cast iron kettlebell Serious training, swings, snatches 4–48kg $29–$249
Vinyl-coated kettlebell Apartments, timber floors 4–20kg $29–$179
Fixed dumbbells (pair) Home gym essentials 2–40kg each $39–$399
Adjustable dumbbell Space-saving, small home gym 2–24kg $249–$799
Olympic weight plate set Barbell training 1.25–25kg $149–$999

Are cast iron or vinyl kettlebells better?

For serious training, cast iron. Vinyl kettlebells suit apartments where noise matters or where you might drop them on timber floors. They protect the floor. But the coating changes the grip feel, cracks over time, and can hide manufacturing seams that catch skin during high-rep swings. Cast iron chips paint when dropped and lasts decades. If you are training on concrete or rubber matting, buy cast iron. If you are training in a spare bedroom above someone else, buy vinyl-coated or rubber-coated.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Handle diameter: 33mm for most male grips, 30mm for smaller hands
  • Handle smoothness: Should feel machined, not gritty — gritty tears skin
  • Base flatness: Must stand still on the floor for Turkish get-ups
  • Weight tolerance: Cheap bells can be 5–8% off stamped weight
  • Coating: Bare cast iron shows quality; coatings can hide it
  • Room to grow: Buy the next weight up before you need it

Can you get in shape with just one kettlebell?

Yes. A single well-chosen kettlebell (16kg for most men, 12kg for most women) covers swings, goblet squats, presses, rows, cleans and Turkish get-ups. Adding a second bell 4–8kg heavier opens up progressive overload. A full "gym in your garage" needs 3–4 bells, not a dozen. Program-first, gear-second is the honest advice — better to own two kettlebells you actually use than eight sitting under the stairs.

How much do kettlebells and weights cost in Australia?

Weights at Simple Deals start from $29 for small kettlebells and dumbbells. Most quality kettlebell sets sit between $89 and $299, with adjustable dumbbells from $249 to $799 and Olympic plate sets from $149 to $999. All items dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.

What most sites won't admit

Almost every kettlebell sold in Australia is cast in China, India or Vietnam — including ours. The real difference is not where the kettlebell is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.

The other thing nobody mentions is that vinyl coating hides manufacturing seams. Casting a kettlebell in one piece leaves a small ridge where the two mould halves meet. Quality manufacturers grind that seam smooth before finishing. Cheaper producers hide it under a vinyl or rubber coating — and that is the ridge you feel through the coating during high-rep swings, the one that tears the skin on your palm. Bare cast iron shows the seam if it is there. That is a feature, not a bug — you are seeing what you are gripping.

Frequently asked questions

What if my kettlebell arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with properly packed cast iron.

Do I need a rubber mat under kettlebells?
For concrete or garage floors, no — dropped kettlebells chip paint but usually not concrete. For timber, tile or vinyl flooring, yes — a 15mm rubber mat protects the floor and reduces noise.

How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $189 kettlebell set works out to four payments of $47.25 with Afterpay, four payments of $47.25 with PayPal Pay in 4, or a small monthly amount with Zip. Klarna is also available.

What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unused weights in original packaging.

Complete the home gym

Kettlebells are the anchor of a home gym. A few things go with them. Most home-gym owners add three at the same time: massage guns for the sore lower back after heavy swings, power tools for mounting racks and pull-up bars, and outdoor storage for the gear that lives in the garage.
