swing

Kids' swings turn a backyard tree or play frame into outdoor entertainment that lasts for years. Our range covers single swings, double swings, baby bucket swings, nest and saucer swings, swing-and-slide combinations, and full A-frame sets. Single swings from $40, with most family-sized A-frame sets between $200 and $500. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days.

What age is a kids' swing for?

Different swing types suit different ages. Baby bucket swings (with leg holes and a backrest) suit 6 months to 3 years — they hold the baby securely without expecting any grip strength. Standard belt swings suit 3 years and up, once the child can hold the rope on their own. Nest and saucer swings suit 3 years to teenagers because two or three kids can swing together. Heavy-duty A-frame sets often have a weight rating of 100kg or more, so adults can use them too. Always check the weight rating against the heaviest expected user, not just the child.

Tree swing or A-frame — which one should I choose?

If you have a mature tree with a horizontal branch at least 20cm thick and 2.5–3m off the ground, a tree swing is the simplest and cheapest option. Use a tree-friendly strap (not rope wrapped directly around the bark, which kills the branch over years) and check the branch is alive and not rotted. Without a suitable tree, an A-frame swing set gives you a standalone structure on any flat lawn. The trade-off is footprint: a standard A-frame set needs about 3m x 4m of clear ground plus 1.5m clearance front and back for the swing arc. A-frames also need to be anchored — most ship with ground stakes.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Age and weight rating: Check against the heaviest expected user
  • Clearance: 1.5m clear in front and behind the swing arc
  • Height: Seat 35–60cm above the ground for kids, higher for adults
  • Soft landing: Grass, sand or play mat under the swing
  • Anchoring: Ground stakes for A-frames; tree strap for branches
  • Hardware: Galvanised or stainless steel for outdoor longevity

How do I keep a swing safe?

Most swing injuries happen in three ways. The first is a child walking in front of a moving swing and getting kicked — keep the swing zone clear when in use, and teach younger kids to wait their turn at a marked spot. The second is the swing falling because of failed hardware — check the bolts, chains and tree strap every six months, and replace any rusted or worn parts. The third is overuse on the same tree branch or A-frame joint — the swing point takes hundreds of cycles a day and stress builds over years. Check the connection points where the swing meets the frame or branch annually.

How much do kids' swings cost in Australia?

Kids' swings at Simple Deals start from $30 for single belt swings and $40 for baby bucket swings. Most nest and saucer swings sit between $80 and $200, with full A-frame swing sets between $200 and $500. All swings dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.

What most sites won't admit

Almost every kids' swing sold online in Australia is imported from China — including ours. The real difference is not where the swing is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.

The other thing nobody mentions: rope versus chain. Most cheap swings use rope, which suits indoor or covered areas but stretches and degrades in Australian UV within 2–3 years. Galvanised chain lasts 8–10 years outdoors and is the standard for any swing that lives in the sun. If your swing will be permanently outdoors, look for chain rather than rope. The rope option is fine for swings stored under cover between uses.

Complete the backyard play area

A swing handles outdoor active play, and a few pieces round out the backyard. Most parents add three at the same time: a slide for variety, an inflatable for occasional big play days, and a cubby house for shaded pretend play.
