Range hoods extract smoke, steam, grease and odours from the cooktop area — a kitchen essential that protects cabinets and ceilings from cooking residue while keeping the rest of the house smell-free. Our range covers canopy range hoods (under-mount and wall-mount), undermount slim-line hoods, slide-out telescopic hoods, island chimney rangehoods, and recirculating ductless hoods. Over 60 range hoods in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $200 entry-level slide-out hoods to $800 designer island chimney units. Most orders dispatch within 1–2 business days.
What type of range hood suits my kitchen?
Three main types match three kitchen layouts. A canopy range hood (60cm or 90cm wide, mounted under or against a wall above the cooktop) is the standard for most kitchens — high extraction rates (500–1,200 m³/hour), visible classic appearance, and good filtering. An undermount or slim-line hood sits flush within the cabinet above the cooktop — a discreet look that keeps lines clean, with moderate extraction (400–800 m³/hour). A slide-out telescopic hood pulls out from under the cabinet for use and tucks back when not — great for small kitchens where the visible bulk of a canopy is too imposing. Island chimney hoods are for cooktops on freestanding kitchen islands with no wall behind — they're visible from all angles and cost more than wall-mounted equivalents. Recirculating (ductless) hoods filter and recycle the air through carbon filters instead of venting outside — the only option in apartments without ducting, but extraction is significantly less effective.
What range hood types are available?
| Type | Best for | Width | Price guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canopy range hood | Standard kitchens | 60–90cm | $250–$600 |
| Undermount slim-line | Modern minimalist kitchens | 60–90cm | $200–$500 |
| Slide-out telescopic | Compact kitchens | 60cm | $200–$450 |
| Island chimney | Freestanding island cooktops | 90–120cm | $500–$1,000 |
| Recirculating (ductless) | Apartments without venting | 60–90cm | $200–$500 |
| Designer wall chimney | Open kitchens, statement piece | 90cm | $400–$800 |
What extraction rate do I need?
Match extraction rate to cooktop type and usage. Light cooking (occasional pan frying, lots of boiling): 400–600 m³/hour. Standard cooking (daily pan frying, wok cooking, gas cooking): 600–900 m³/hour. Heavy cooking (commercial-style gas wok, deep frying, regular roasting): 900–1,200 m³/hour. Gas cooktops produce more steam and combustion gases than electric — add 20–30% to the extraction rate for gas. The other key factor is the size of the hood relative to the cooktop — the hood should be at least as wide as the cooktop and ideally 5–10cm wider on each side, so a 60cm cooktop pairs with a 70–80cm hood. A undersized hood (60cm hood over a 90cm cooktop) misses too much rising steam and grease.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Width: Match or exceed cooktop width by 5–10cm on each side
- Extraction rate: 600–900 m³/h for standard cooking; 900+ for heavy use
- Noise level: Under 65dB at full speed; high-speed always noisy
- Filter type: Stainless steel mesh dishwasher-safe; carbon filter for recirculating
- Lighting: LED lights essential for visibility on the cooktop
- Ducting compatibility: 150mm round duct is standard; check house ducting
- Installation height: 60–75cm above electric; 70–85cm above gas cooktops
How much do range hoods cost in Australia?
Range hoods at Simple Deals start from $200 for entry-level slide-out and undermount models. Most quality canopy and chimney hoods sit between $300 and $600, with designer island chimneys and premium models running higher. All range hoods dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most appliance stores won't admit
Almost every range hood sold online in Australia is made in China — including ours. Even premium brand-name hoods (Westinghouse, Bosch, Miele) are manufactured in China or Italy and shipped to Australia. The real difference is not where the hood is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: ducted range hoods only work as well as the ducting installed behind them. A high-extraction hood (1,200 m³/h) connected to a long, narrow, or kinked duct run delivers maybe 500–700 m³/h of actual airflow — less than a basic hood with a short, straight duct. The ideal install is the shortest possible run (under 4m), one or zero bends, and 150mm+ duct diameter throughout. If you can't achieve a good duct path, a recirculating hood with carbon filters often performs as well as a poorly-ducted hood, and the install is simpler. Plan the duct path before buying the hood.
Frequently asked questions
What if my range hood arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Range hoods ship in one large box; check the stainless steel surface for scratches before installation.
Do I need a licensed electrician to install?
For hard-wired range hoods (most canopy and chimney models), yes — by law, all hard-wired appliance installations require a licensed electrician in Australia. Plug-in models (some slide-out and undermount units) can be installed by anyone. Ducting work is best done by a kitchen installer for proper sealing and routing.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $500 range hood works out to four payments of $125 with Afterpay, four payments of $125 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $42 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on uninstalled range hoods in original packaging. Motor warranties are listed separately on the product page.
Complete the kitchen setup
A range hood handles the extraction, and a few pieces round out the cooking space. Most kitchen renovations add three at the same time: an oven for baking and roasting, a microwave for quick cooking, and a dishwasher for cleanup.
