The other thing nobody mentions: council permits. In most Australian states, above ground pools under 300mm (30cm) deep don't need council approval. Over that depth, you need a compliance certificate and pool fencing. Check your local council rules before buying — fines for non-compliance start at $5,500 in NSW.
