Cat Supplies
Cat supplies cover the daily essentials and the comforts that keep an indoor cat active and content. Our range covers cat trees and scratching posts, cat beds and igloos, litter trays and enclosed loos, food and water bowls, carriers and travel cages, toys and laser pointers, and cat doors. Over 300 cat products in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $20 toys to $300 large multi-level cat trees. Most orders dispatch within 1–2 business days.
What does a new cat actually need on day one?
Six items cover the first 24 hours: a litter tray with cat litter, food and water bowls, a small bed or cushion, a scratching post (even small — cats need one immediately), a carrier (also useful for the trip home), and a few toys for play. Total cost runs around $150–250 for these basics. Cat trees, cat doors, automatic feeders and fancy electronic toys come later, once you understand your specific cat's preferences. Some cats want a tall climbing tree; others prefer a window perch. Some love feather wand toys; others ignore them and only chase laser dots. Wait a week before buying the bigger items.

Do I need a cat tree or just a scratching post?
Both serve different needs. A small scratching post (40–60cm tall) is the minimum every cat needs — cats must scratch to maintain claw health, and without a post, they will scratch your sofa. A cat tree (120–180cm) adds vertical climbing, multiple perches, and usually one or two cubby hides. Most adult cats genuinely use cat trees daily, especially in apartments or homes without much vertical space. The investment makes more sense for indoor-only cats than for cats that go outdoors. Start with a scratching post; add a cat tree if the cat shows interest in climbing furniture or perching on shelves.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Litter tray size: 1.5x the length of the cat (nose to tail base)
- Tray count: One tray per cat, plus one extra (vet recommendation)
- Scratching post height: Tall enough for the cat to stretch fully upward
- Scratching post stability: Heavy base prevents tipping when scratched hard
- Carrier style: Top-opening carriers are easier for vet visits than front-loading
- Bowl material: Ceramic and stainless steel avoid the chin acne plastic causes
Enclosed or open litter tray — which is better?
Cats prefer open trays, but most owners prefer enclosed ones because they hide the litter and reduce odour. The compromise: cats will use enclosed trays if they're large enough (most are too small) and well ventilated (small enclosed trays trap smell, which cats dislike). If you go enclosed, pick the largest one that fits the space. If your cat has previously been outdoor or has any history of avoiding the tray, stick with open trays during the transition. Self-cleaning automatic trays are useful for households where daily scooping is a problem, but they cost $200–500 and need ongoing replacement crystals or pads.
How much do cat supplies cost in Australia?
Cat supplies at Simple Deals start from $15 for bowls and basic toys. Most quality beds, posts and litter trays sit between $25 and $150, with larger cat trees and carriers running higher. All cat supplies dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most pet stores won't admit
Almost every cat supply sold online in Australia is imported from China or Vietnam — including ours. The real difference is not where the product is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: most cat trees are too short. Cats need to be able to fully stretch upward while scratching — around 80–100cm of vertical scratching surface for an adult cat. A 60cm "cat tree" looks tall in photos but only gives 40cm of usable scratching height once the cat reaches up. If the cat ignores a new tree and goes back to the sofa, the tree is probably too short. Going up to 150cm or taller fixes this for most cats.
Frequently asked questions
What if my cat supply arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with flat-pack cat furniture, but check the sisal posts for unravelling on receipt.
Will my cat actually use the cat tree?
Most cats use a tree within 1–3 weeks if it's placed in a high-traffic part of the house, not tucked in a corner. Cats scratch where they live, not where you want them to.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $200 cat tree works out to four payments of $50 with Afterpay, four payments of $50 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $17 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unassembled cat supplies in original packaging.
Complete the cat setup
Cat supplies cover the basics, and a few extras round out the indoor cat's home. Most owners add three at the same time: a cozy bed for naps, a carrier for vet trips, and a cat enclosure for safe outdoor time.
