Bird supplies cover everything pet birds need indoors and outdoors — from a budgie's first cage to a flight aviary for breeding pairs. Our range covers small bird cages (budgies, finches, canaries), parrot cages, large flight aviaries, perches and roosting branches, feeders and waterers, mineral and cuttlefish supplements, and bird toys. Over 40 bird products in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $20 perch sets to $500 large flight aviaries. Most orders dispatch within 1–2 business days.
What does a new bird actually need?
For a single budgie or small parrot, the day-one essentials are: an appropriately-sized cage with the right bar spacing, three perches of different diameters and textures, a seed and water container set, a cuttlefish bone and mineral block, and 2–3 simple toys for mental enrichment. Avoid using sandpaper perch covers (they damage foot pads), mirrors (encourage isolation behaviours in lone birds), and toys with frayed rope (cause crop impactions). The full kit runs around $150–300 depending on cage size. Specialist gear (incubators, brooders, training perches) comes later.

What perches should I have in a bird cage?
Birds need perch variety, not just one or two perches. Each perch should have a different diameter and texture, because birds use them for different purposes — a thicker perch helps clean the beak after eating, a softer textured perch suits sleeping, a smooth dowel suits gripping while eating, and a natural branch suits chewing and foot exercise. The recommended setup is 3–4 perches per bird, placed at different heights with clear flight paths between them. Avoid putting a perch directly above food or water containers — the bird will inevitably soil them. Natural branches from non-toxic Australian trees (eucalyptus, banksia, melaleuca) are free if you can source them; commercial natural perches run $10–30 each.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Cage size: Minimum 2x wingspan; bigger is always better
- Bar spacing: Species-appropriate — see species guides
- Perch variety: 3–4 different diameters and textures
- Toys: 2–3 rotated weekly to prevent boredom
- Feeders: Separate seed, water, and treat containers
- Cover: Cage cover for night-time helps with sleep regulation
Indoor cage or outdoor aviary?
Indoor cages suit single birds and pairs that the family interacts with daily. Indoor birds bond with humans, learn to talk (for species like budgies and cockatiels), and benefit from the social interaction. The trade-off is they get less flight time than aviary birds. Outdoor aviaries suit multiple birds, breeding pairs, and finches or canaries that don't strongly bond with humans. Aviary birds get full flight, natural sunlight (essential for vitamin D and feather health), and can live more naturally — but they're less interactive. Many bird keepers run both: a smaller indoor cage for daily interaction and an outdoor aviary for free-flight time.
How much do bird supplies cost in Australia?
Bird supplies at Simple Deals start from $15 for perch sets and basic accessories. Most quality cages and feeder sets sit between $50 and $250, with larger parrot cages and flight aviaries running up to $700. All bird supplies dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most pet stores won't admit
Almost every bird supply sold online in Australia is imported from China — including ours. The real difference is not where the product is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: cage paint matters more than the cage size. Some cheap cages use paint that contains zinc or lead, which is toxic to birds when they chew on the bars (which most pet birds do). Powder-coated cages are safer; certified "parrot-safe" coating is safer still. If the product page doesn't specify the coating, assume it's basic powder-coat — fine for finches and budgies that rarely chew bars, but not for larger parrots that will chip and ingest the coating. For any larger parrot, pay the premium for certified non-toxic coating.
Frequently asked questions
What if my bird supply arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with packaged bird supplies, but check cage bars for bent welds on receipt.
Do you sell bird food?
We stock a range of bird seed mixes and supplements. Always transition birds gradually to a new food brand over 1–2 weeks to avoid digestive issues.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $200 bird setup works out to four payments of $50 with Afterpay, four payments of $50 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $17 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unused items in original packaging.
Complete the bird setup
Bird supplies cover the cage and basics, and a few pieces complete the bird's home. Most bird keepers add three at the same time: a larger flight cage or aviary for free-flight time, a travel cage for vet visits, and pest control to keep rodents away from the cage area.
