A pet bed is where your dog or cat spends 12–18 hours of every day, so the size, support and material matter more than the colour or pattern. Our range covers plush dog beds, orthopaedic memory foam beds, raised cooling beds, cave-style cat beds, washable mats, and outdoor weatherproof beds. Over 320 pet beds and mats in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $30 small cat beds to $200 large orthopaedic dog beds. Most orders dispatch within 1–2 business days.
What size bed does my pet need?
Measure the pet from nose to base of tail (not including the tail), then add 15–20cm. That's the minimum bed length. A 25kg Labrador needs around 90–110cm; a 5kg cat or toy breed needs 50–70cm. The mistake most owners make is buying a bed that fits the pet curled up rather than stretched out. Pets sleep stretched in hot weather and curled in cold, so the bed needs to handle both. Bolster beds (with raised sides) suit pets that like to rest their head on a pillow edge; flat mats suit pets that sprawl. If unsure, go one size up rather than down.
What types of pet beds are available?
| Type | Best for | Material | Price guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plush bolster bed | Dogs and cats that curl up | Polyester fibre | $30–$120 |
| Orthopaedic memory foam | Older pets, joint support | Memory foam | $80–$250 |
| Raised cooling bed | Hot summers, larger dogs | Mesh on metal frame | $50–$180 |
| Cave bed / igloo | Cats, hiding-prone pets | Fabric over frame | $30–$100 |
| Washable mat | Crates, car, secondary bed | Foam or fibre | $25–$80 |
| Outdoor weatherproof bed | Verandas, garages | Waterproof fabric | $60–$200 |
Orthopaedic or plush — which is better?
Each suits different stages of a pet's life. Plush polyester-fibre beds feel soft, suit puppies and kittens, and look the part — but the filling compresses within 6–12 months of nightly use and offers little joint support. Orthopaedic beds use 7–10cm of memory foam or high-density foam that supports joints properly and holds shape for 3–5 years. The orthopaedic bed makes a real difference for any pet over 7 years old, large-breed dogs (which develop hip and elbow stiffness younger), and pets with diagnosed joint issues. For young, small or short-haired pets, plush is fine. The cost difference reflects the construction; the lifespan difference usually offsets it.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Size: Nose-to-tail measurement plus 15–20cm
- Removable cover: Machine-washable cover is essential
- Filling depth: 7–10cm of foam for joint support; less for comfort only
- Anti-slip base: Stops the bed sliding on hard floors
- Edge support: Bolsters help pets that like to rest their head
- Cleaning approach: Some beds spot-clean only; check the care label
How often should I replace a pet bed?
Lifespan depends on the bed and the pet. A cheap polyester-fibre bed used nightly by a 25kg dog lasts 6–12 months before the filling compresses flat. A mid-range bed with a denser fibre fill lasts 18–24 months. A quality memory-foam or orthopaedic bed lasts 3–5 years. Smaller pets, less frequent use, and beds rotated between locations all extend the life. The replacement cue is firm pressure on the bed by hand — if you can feel the floor through it, the support is gone. The cover lasts longer than the filling, so beds with replaceable inner cushions extend the useful life.
How much do pet beds and mats cost in Australia?
Pet beds and mats at Simple Deals start from $25 for compact mats and small cat beds. Most quality plush and raised beds sit between $30 and $150, with orthopaedic memory-foam beds running higher. All beds dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most pet stores won't admit
Almost every pet bed sold online in Australia is imported from China or Vietnam — including ours. The real difference is not where the bed is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: bed marketing uses fluffy filling to look plush in photos, knowing the filling compresses fast. A 15cm-tall plush bed in the photo is often 4cm tall under a 25kg dog after a week. The honest measurement is foam density (kg per cubic metre), not visible height. High-density foam (35kg+ per m³) holds shape under repeated weight; low-density foam (under 25kg per m³) compresses. If the product page does not mention foam density, the bed is probably soft fibre with a thin foam layer underneath.
Frequently asked questions
What if my pet bed arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with vacuum-packed beds.
How do I wash a pet bed?
Most pet bed covers are removable and machine-washable on cold or warm. The inner cushion is usually spot-clean only; check the care label for specifics. Wash covers every 1–2 weeks for indoor beds.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $120 pet bed works out to four payments of $30 with Afterpay, four payments of $30 with PayPal Pay in 4, or a small monthly amount with Zip. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unused beds in original packaging.
Complete the pet's sleep setup
A pet bed handles the indoor sleep, and a few pieces complete the comfort kit. Most owners add three at the same time: an outdoor kennel for yard time, a cooling or heating mat for extreme weather, and a seat cover if the pet travels in the car.
