What is a standing desk?
A standing desk is a desk whose surface raises and lowers so you can work either sitting or standing. How long do standing desk motors last?
A standing desk motor is rated by how many up-and-down cycles it can handle, and this is the spec most listings leave out. A budget motor is rated for roughly 5,000 to 10,000 cycles — about 3 to 5 years if you adjust the desk a few times a day. A better motor is rated for 20,000 cycles or more. If you plan to change height several times daily, the cycle rating matters more than any other number, because the motor is the part that fails first. A dual-motor desk also spreads the load across two drives, which generally extends its working life. Check the cycle rating on the product page before buying.
