Night Lights

A night light keeps a child's bedroom from being pitch dark — enough light to find the door or use the toilet without being bright enough to disrupt sleep. Our range covers plug-in nightlights, rechargeable portable lights, projector nightlights, and silicone touch lamps in animal and character shapes. We hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days. Night lights from $20.

What kind of night light is best for kids?

The right night light depends on what the child is afraid of and how light-sensitive they are. A small plug-in nightlight gives a soft glow in a hallway or socket near the bed. A touch-on silicone lamp can be held or carried to the toilet at night. A projector nightlight casts stars or shapes on the ceiling, which entertains until sleep and reassures during the night. For sleep-sensitive kids, choose warm amber or red light — blue and bright white light suppress melatonin and delay sleep, even at low levels.

What types of night lights are available?

Type Best for Power Price guide
Plug-in nightlight Hallways, low setup Mains $20–$40
Touch-on silicone lamp Portable, bedside USB rechargeable $30–$60
Projector nightlight Ceiling projection USB or batteries $40–$90
Smart sensor light Auto on / off USB or mains $35–$80
Character lamp Toddlers, comfort USB rechargeable $30–$70

Are night lights safe to leave on all night?

LED night lights are safe to leave on overnight — they run cool, use very little power, and most LED units are rated for 30,000-plus hours of continuous use. Touch-on silicone lamps and projector lights usually have an auto-off timer (30 minutes to 2 hours) so they switch off after the child falls asleep, which suits sleep-sensitive kids. Plug-in nightlights stay on continuously; this is fine but check the unit is SAA-marked or CE-marked for Australian electrical standards. Avoid old incandescent bulb nightlights — they run hot enough to be a burn risk if a child touches them, and they cost more in electricity.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Light colour: Warm amber for sleep, white or blue for play
  • Brightness control: Dimmable units suit different needs over time
  • Timer: Auto-off after 30–120 minutes saves battery and aids sleep
  • Power: Plug-in for permanent, USB-rechargeable for portable
  • Safety: SAA-marked or CE-marked for Australian standards
  • Material: Silicone is soft and safe if dropped or chewed

What about projector and starlight nightlights?

Projector nightlights cast moving stars, galaxies, or themed images (ocean, dinosaurs, fairy tales) on the ceiling and walls. Younger kids love them, and they can extend bedtime into a calming wind-down activity. The trade-off is they need ambient darkness to project clearly — in a partially lit room or with morning light, the projection fades to nothing. Most run on a timer that switches off after 30–60 minutes, by which point the child is usually asleep. For older kids who outgrow themed projectors, plain star projectors stay age-appropriate longer.

How much do kids' night lights cost in Australia?

Night lights at Simple Deals start from $20 for compact plug-in models. Most touch-on and projector lights sit between $30 and $70, with larger character lamps and smart sensor lights running higher. All units dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.

What most sites won't admit

Almost every night light sold online in Australia is imported from China — including ours. The real difference is not where the light is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.

The other thing nobody mentions: blue light at night. Most cheap nightlights use cool white or blue LEDs because they are the cheapest to produce. These wavelengths suppress melatonin even at low brightness, which delays sleep onset. If you have a sleep-sensitive child, look for warm white (2700K–3000K) or amber LED nightlights. The difference is real — kids fall asleep 20–30 minutes faster under warm light than under cool white.

Frequently asked questions

What if my night light arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with boxed lighting.

How long do night lights last?
LED night lights last 30,000–50,000 hours — roughly 10 years of nightly use. Rechargeable battery units last 2–4 years before the battery wears down; the LED keeps working.

How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $60 night light works out to four payments of $15 with Afterpay, four payments of $15 with PayPal Pay in 4, or a small monthly amount with Zip. Klarna is also available.

What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unopened items in original packaging.

Complete the bedroom setup

A night light handles the lighting, and a few pieces complete the kids' bedroom. Most parents add three at the same time: sleeping bags for safer sleep, a comfort pillow for older kids, and quiet toys for the wind-down before sleep.
