Modular Lounges

A modular lounge is built from separate pieces that join together, so you can shape the seating to your room and rearrange it later. It is the most flexible way to fill a living room, especially an open-plan one. We stock over 60 modular lounges — single modular chairs, chaise sets, corner and L-shape configurations — from around $207 for a single piece, with most full sets between $300 and $800. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, so orders dispatch within 1-2 business days.

What is a modular lounge?

A modular lounge is a sofa made of individual sections — seats, corners, chaises and ottomans — that connect together. Because the pieces are separate, you can set it up as an L-shape, a U-shape or a straight run, and change the layout if you move or rearrange the room. Some of our modular pieces are sold singly so you can build up a lounge over time; others come as a fixed set. The product page states whether a listing is a single piece or a complete configuration.

What size modular lounge fits my room?

Measure the room before ordering, because a modular lounge is easy to over-size. Map the footprint on the floor with tape — a chaise or corner section extends well into the room, not just along the wall. Leave at least 80cm of clear walkway around the lounge. Also measure your doorway, hallway and lift: modular lounges have an advantage here, because they arrive as separate sections that fit through a standard 80cm doorway far more easily than a one-piece sofa.

How do modular pieces stay connected?

Modular pieces hold together with one of three connection methods, and this is the detail that decides whether the lounge keeps its shape. Cheaper modulars rely on velcro strips, which work loose and let the pieces drift apart when someone leans or sits heavily. Better modulars use metal brackets or interlocking bases that lock the sections firmly together. Before buying, check the connection method on the product page — a bracket or interlocking system is worth more than any styling feature, because a lounge that drifts apart is a daily annoyance.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Map the footprint: Tape out the full shape, including any chaise, on the floor
  • Connection method: Metal brackets or interlocking bases beat velcro
  • Single or set: Check whether the listing is one piece or a full configuration
  • Walkway: Leave at least 80cm of clear space around the lounge
  • Cover: Performance fabric handles kids and pets best
  • Flat-pack delivery: Sections ship boxed and fit through 80cm doorways

Can I add to a modular lounge later?

Often yes — that is the main advantage of buying modular. Many of our modular pieces are sold individually, so you can start with a smaller setup and add seats, a corner or an ottoman later as the budget or the room allows. The one thing to confirm is the range and colour: a piece bought later needs to match the original for both the fabric batch and the connection system. If adding on matters to you, note the exact product name so you can reorder from the same range.

How much does a modular lounge cost in Australia?

Modular lounges at Simple Deals start from around $207 for a single modular chair or seat. A 3-seater modular runs from about $236, and most full corner and chaise configurations sit between $300 and $800, with larger sets higher again. All pieces dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.

What most furniture sites won't admit

Almost every modular lounge sold online in Australia is imported from China, Vietnam, Malaysia or Indonesia — including ours. Where the lounge is made is not the real difference between online furniture retailers. What matters is what happens after the stock lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from an overseas container, which is why their "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there — the same imported lounge, dispatched in 1–2 business days.

Frequently asked questions

What if my modular lounge arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with flat-pack sections, and we work to resolve any claim quickly.

Can I change the layout after buying?
Yes. The sections are not fixed together permanently, so an L-shape can become a straight run or a U-shape whenever you rearrange the room.

How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $600 modular lounge works out to four payments of $150 with Afterpay, four payments of $150 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $50 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.

What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unassembled pieces in original packaging.

Complete your living room

A modular lounge anchors the seating, and a few pieces finish the room. Most buyers add three at the same time: a coffee table in proportion to the lounge, a rug large enough to sit under the front of the seating, and a sofa cover to protect the fabric in a busy household.
