When do I need a baby gate or playpen?
Most parents fit safety gates around 6–8 months — the point when babies start crawling fast and reaching for things at floor level. Stair-top gates need to be in place before the baby reaches the top of any stairs, even if they have not yet shown interest. Playpens are useful from 4 months (sitter babies can play inside while you handle dinner or laundry) through to about 18 months, when most toddlers grow tall enough to climb out. Pressure-fit or hardware-mounted gate?
Both work — the choice depends on where the gate goes. Pressure-fit gates use rubber-tipped tension rods that grip the door frame or wall. They install in 5 minutes without screws and leave no marks, which suits doorways, the bottom of stairs, and rental properties. Hardware-mounted gates screw into the door frame or wall and are far stronger — essential at the top of stairs, where a pressure-fit gate that pops out under a leaning toddler could send them falling down a flight. The rule from Australian paediatric safety guidelines: pressure-fit anywhere a fall is not catastrophic, hardware-mounted at the top of every stair.

How big should a playpen be?
The minimum useful playpen size is about 1.2m x 1.2m — small enough that a sitter baby has space to play with toys, but big enough that they do not feel trapped. Most family playpens run 1.5m to 2m square, which fits a crawling baby comfortably with space for floor toys. Larger setups (modular panels arranged in any shape) suit open-plan living rooms where you want to wall off a section. Most playpens are designed to come apart for storage when not in use — useful since the playpen phase is usually only 6–12 months before the baby is old enough to go without.

What most sites won't admit

The other thing nobody mentions: stair-bottom gates can also be a fall risk. The fix: use a taller gate (90cm+) at stair bottoms once the child is over 75cm tall, or move the gate higher up the stairs and skip the bottom gate. Can I fit a gate to a wall, not a door frame?
Hardware-mounted gates fit to walls, skirting boards, or door frames — wherever you can drive screws into something solid. Plasterboard alone is too soft; you need a wall stud, door frame, or skirting board behind it.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
