A bed frame is the foundation of a good night's sleep. Most online bed frames in Australia ship from overseas warehouses, which is why "fast delivery" usually means six weeks. Ours don't. We hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses and dispatch within 1-2 business days. Over 300 bed frames in stock, from $200 single frames to $1,500 storage beds.
What size bed frame do I need?
Match the bed frame to your mattress size, with internal dimensions slightly larger to fit the mattress. Standard Australian sizes:
- Single bed frame: Internal 92cm × 188cm. Best for kids' rooms and single sleepers.
- King single bed frame: Internal 107cm × 203cm. Taller than a single. Good for tall teens and adults.
- Double bed frame: Internal 138cm × 188cm. Couples in apartments, single adults wanting extra room.
- Queen bed frame: Internal 153cm × 203cm. The standard Australian choice for couples.
- King bed frame: Internal 183cm × 203cm. Couples wanting extra space, families with co-sleepers.
- Super king bed frame: Internal 203cm × 203cm. Maximum sleeping space, biggest rooms.
Always check the bed frame's internal dimensions match your mattress before ordering. A queen bed frame and queen mattress should be exactly the same size.
What materials and styles last?
Frame material decides how long your bed will last. The four main types in Australia:
- Wood bed frame: Solid hardwood lasts 15+ years. Kiln-dried pine (most of our wood frames) lasts 10-15 years. Adds natural warmth.
- Metal bed frame: Steel or wrought iron, 10-20 years. Industrial or classic styles. Lighter to move.
- Upholstered bed frame: Fabric or velvet covering over a timber frame. Adds softness and modern style. Choose performance fabric if you have kids or pets.
- Faux leather bed frame: Wipes clean, contemporary look. Cracks after 5-8 years of heavy use.
Slat strength matters as much as the frame. Look for at least 12 hardwood slats spaced no more than 7cm apart. Wider slat spacing voids most mattress warranties.
Should I get a bed frame with storage?
Storage bed frames save serious bedroom space. Three main types:
- Drawer storage beds: Two to four drawers built into the base. Easy access, no lifting.
- Gas lift bed frame: The whole base lifts up to reveal storage underneath the mattress. Holds the most. Good for seasonal items.
- Ottoman storage: Similar to gas lift but uses hinges instead of hydraulics. Lower cost, more manual effort.
Gas lift mechanisms are rated for 5,000-10,000 cycles — about 2-3 years of daily use before they weaken. Replacement gas struts cost $40-80 if needed.

What most furniture sites won't admit
Almost every online bed frame sold in Australia is imported from China, Vietnam, Malaysia or Indonesia — including ours. The real difference between online furniture retailers isn't where the bed is made. It's what happens after it lands. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" turns into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there. Same imported product, completely different buying experience.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a queen bed frame cost in Australia?
Most quality queen bed frames sit between $250 and $800. Storage and gas lift queen frames go up to $1,500. King and super king frames cost roughly 20-30% more.
Will my mattress fit this bed frame?
Match the size: queen mattress to queen frame, king to king. Always check the internal dimensions listed on the product page against your mattress.
How long does bed frame assembly take?
Most frames take 30-45 minutes for two people. Storage and gas lift beds take 45-60 minutes. Tools and instructions are included.
What if a part is missing or damaged?
Photograph the issue, email Support@simpledeals.com.au with your order number, and we'll send replacement parts from our Australian warehouse stock. Don't assemble a damaged frame — it voids the warranty claim.
Can I disassemble it later for moving house?
Yes. Most bed frames disassemble back to their flat-pack state. Keep the original bolts and Allen key.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3-5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5-8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7-14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $600 bed frame works out to four payments of $150 with Afterpay, roughly $52 a month with Zip over 12 months, or four payments of $150 with PayPal Pay in 4.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects covering frame, slats and stitching. Plus 30-day returns on unassembled frames.
Complete your bedroom
A bed frame works hardest when paired with the right pieces. Three buyers add at the same time: a mattress sized to match the frame's internal dimensions, bed heads or headboards with bolt holes that match your frame, and bedside tables roughly 5cm shorter than the mattress top.

FAQs – Get the Answers You Need
Your bed frame size must match your mattress size exactly. If you have a queen mattress (153cm × 203cm), you need a queen bed frame. Using a mismatched size means your mattress won't sit properly and could lack support at the edges. Check your mattress label—it'll state the size clearly.
Most bed frames sold in Australia include slats as part of the package, but not all. Check the product description under "What's Included" or similar. Slats are the wooden or metal supports that sit across the frame to hold up your mattress. Without them, your mattress will sag into the frame.
Neither is objectively better—it depends what matters to you. Wooden frames are heavier, feel sturdier, and suit traditional or warm aesthetics. Metal frames are lighter, often cheaper, and easier to move. Both will support your mattress fine if built properly. Wood tends to last longer but costs more upfront.
A platform bed has a built-in solid or slatted base that supports the mattress directly—you don't need a box spring or separate base. A regular bed frame usually has a perimeter frame with slats or requires a base to sit on top. Platform beds sit lower and have a more modern look.
You can use a mattress on the floor, but it's not ideal. Bed frames allow air to circulate under the mattress, which prevents moisture buildup and mould (especially in humid climates). They also extend mattress life, give you storage space, and make getting in and out of bed easier. A frame is worth the small investment.
Storage beds come in two types: drawer beds (with pull-out drawers on the side or foot) and gas lift beds (where the mattress base lifts up to reveal storage underneath). Both are clearly labelled in product titles. Standard bed frames have open space underneath but no built-in storage system.
Most standard bed frames support 150–250kg depending on size and construction. Queen and king frames generally have higher weight limits than single or double. Check the product specs for exact figures. If weight is a concern, look for reinforced centre support beams or solid timber construction.
Budget frames (under $300) can last 5–8 years if you treat them reasonably. They use thinner materials and simpler construction, so they won't feel as solid as premium options. If you need something temporary or you're furnishing a rental, they're sensible. If you want a frame to last 10+ years, spending $400–700 gets better longevity.
