BEDS

A bed frame is the foundation of a good night's sleep — and the one piece of bedroom furniture that takes weight every single night for years. Most bed frames sold online in Australia ship from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" so often turns into six weeks. Ours don't. We hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses and dispatch within 1–2 business days. Over 300 bed frames in stock, from $200 single frames to $1,500 gas-lift storage beds, backed by a 12-month warranty and 30-day change-of-mind returns.

What size bed frame do I need?

Match the bed frame to your mattress size — the frame's internal dimensions should equal the mattress, not the outer footprint. (A bed frame and a bed base are the same thing; "bed base" is just the more common term in some parts of Australia.) Standard Australian sizes:

  • Single bed frame: Internal 92cm × 188cm. Best for kids' rooms and single sleepers.
  • King single bed frame: Internal 107cm × 203cm. Taller than a single — good for tall teens and adults.
  • Double bed frame: Internal 138cm × 188cm. Couples in apartments, or single adults wanting extra room.
  • Queen bed frame: Internal 153cm × 203cm. The standard Australian choice for couples.
  • King bed frame: Internal 183cm × 203cm. Couples wanting extra space, families with co-sleepers.
  • Super king bed frame: Internal 203cm × 203cm. Maximum sleeping space for the biggest rooms.

Before ordering, measure the room too: allow at least 60cm of walking space on each side you'll use, and check the frame will fit through your doorway and any stair turns. A queen bed frame and queen mattress should be exactly the same size.

What materials and styles last?

Frame material decides how long your bed will last, and how it feels in the room. The four main types sold in Australia:

  • Wooden bed frame: Solid hardwood lasts 15+ years; kiln-dried pine (most of our timber frames) lasts 10–15. Adds natural warmth and suits Scandi, classic and traditional rooms.
  • Metal bed frame: Steel or wrought iron, 10–20 years. Industrial or classic looks, lighter to move, usually the most budget-friendly.
  • Upholstered bed frame: Fabric or velvet over a timber frame — soft, modern, quiet. Choose a performance or stain-resistant fabric if you have kids or pets.
  • Faux leather bed frame: Wipes clean and looks contemporary, but the coating tends to crack after 5–8 years of heavy use.

Slat strength matters as much as the frame itself. Look for at least 12 hardwood slats spaced no more than 7cm apart, and check the frame's weight rating — most quality queen frames carry 300–500kg. Slat spacing wider than 7cm voids most mattress warranties and lets a mattress sag prematurely.

Should I get a bed frame with storage?

Storage bed frames turn dead under-bed space into usable room — worth it in apartments and smaller bedrooms. Three main types:

  • Drawer storage beds: Two to four drawers built into the base. Easy access, no lifting, but you need clear floor space beside the bed for the drawers to open.
  • Gas-lift bed frame: The whole base lifts on hydraulic struts to reveal full-footprint storage under the mattress. Holds the most — ideal for linen and seasonal items.
  • Ottoman storage: Similar to gas lift but hinged rather than hydraulic. Lower cost, a little more manual effort to lift.

Gas-lift struts are typically rated for 5,000–10,000 cycles — years of daily use before they weaken — and replacement struts cost around $40–80 if ever needed. Check the frame's height once lifted if you have a low ceiling or overhead shelf.

Quick buyer's checklist

Six things worth checking before you order — two minutes now saves a return later:

  • Mattress size match: confirm the frame's internal dimensions equal your mattress size.
  • Slat strength: 12+ hardwood slats, spaced 7cm or less, with a weight rating above your combined body weight plus mattress.
  • Headboard clearance: measure floor-to-ceiling against the frame's total height, especially for tall or wingback headboards.
  • Room access: check doorways, hallways and stair turns for the largest packed carton.
  • Assembly: allow 30–60 minutes for two people; tools and instructions are included.
  • Warranty and returns: 12-month warranty on frame, slats and stitching, plus 30-day change-of-mind returns for store credit (unassembled, original packaging; conditions apply).

What most furniture sites won't admit

Almost every bed frame sold online in Australia is imported from China, Vietnam, Malaysia or Indonesia — including ours. The real difference between online furniture retailers isn't where the bed is made; it's what happens after it lands. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why their "fast delivery" turns into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there. Same imported product, completely different buying experience.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a queen bed frame cost in Australia?
Most quality queen bed frames sit between $250 and $800. Storage and gas-lift queen frames go up to $1,500. King and super king frames cost roughly 20–30% more.

Will my mattress fit this bed frame?
Match the size — queen mattress to queen frame, king to king. Always check the internal dimensions listed on the product page against your mattress before ordering.

How long does bed frame assembly take?
Most frames take 30–45 minutes for two people. Storage and gas-lift beds take 45–60 minutes. Tools and instructions are included.

What if a part is missing or damaged?
Photograph the issue, email Support@simpledeals.com.au with your order number, and we'll send replacement parts from our Australian warehouse stock. Don't assemble a damaged frame — it voids the warranty claim.

Can I disassemble it later for moving house?
Yes. Most bed frames come apart back to flat-pack. Keep the original bolts and Allen key so reassembly is straightforward.

How long does delivery take?
Dispatched within 1–2 business days. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all of them. A $600 bed frame works out to four payments of $150 with Afterpay, roughly $52 a month with Zip over 12 months, or four payments of $150 with PayPal Pay in 4.

What's the warranty and returns policy?
12 months on manufacturing defects covering frame, slats and stitching, and your full rights under Australian Consumer Law for any faulty item. If you change your mind, you have 30 days for a store-credit return — the frame needs to be unassembled and in its original packaging, and return shipping plus a 15% restocking fee apply.

Complete your bedroom

A bed frame works hardest when paired with the right pieces. Most buyers add three at the same time: a mattress sized to match the frame's internal dimensions, a bed head or headboard with bolt holes that line up with your frame, and bedside tables roughly 5cm shorter than the mattress top.

FAQs – Get the Answers You Need

What size bed frame do I need for my mattress?

Your bed frame size must match your mattress size exactly. If you have a queen mattress (153cm × 203cm), you need a queen bed frame. Using a mismatched size means your mattress won't sit properly and could lack support at the edges. Check your mattress label—it'll state the size clearly.

Do bed frames come with slats?

Most bed frames sold in Australia include slats as part of the package, but not all. Check the product description under "What's Included" or similar. Slats are the wooden or metal supports that sit across the frame to hold up your mattress. Without them, your mattress will sag into the frame.

Are wooden bed frames better than metal ones?

Neither is objectively better—it depends what matters to you. Wooden frames are heavier, feel sturdier, and suit traditional or warm aesthetics. Metal frames are lighter, often cheaper, and easier to move. Both will support your mattress fine if built properly. Wood tends to last longer but costs more upfront.

What's the difference between a platform bed and a regular bed frame?

A platform bed has a built-in solid or slatted base that supports the mattress directly—you don't need a box spring or separate base. A regular bed frame usually has a perimeter frame with slats or requires a base to sit on top. Platform beds sit lower and have a more modern look.

Do I actually need a bed frame, or can I just use a mattress on the floor?

You can use a mattress on the floor, but it's not ideal. Bed frames allow air to circulate under the mattress, which prevents moisture buildup and mould (especially in humid climates). They also extend mattress life, give you storage space, and make getting in and out of bed easier. A frame is worth the small investment.

Which bed frames have storage underneath?

Storage beds come in two types: drawer beds (with pull-out drawers on the side or foot) and gas lift beds (where the mattress base lifts up to reveal storage underneath). Both are clearly labelled in product titles. Standard bed frames have open space underneath but no built-in storage system.

How much weight can a bed frame hold?

Most standard bed frames support 150–250kg depending on size and construction. Queen and king frames generally have higher weight limits than single or double. Check the product specs for exact figures. If weight is a concern, look for reinforced centre support beams or solid timber construction.

Are cheap bed frames worth it, or will they break?

Budget frames (under $300) can last 5–8 years if you treat them reasonably. They use thinner materials and simpler construction, so they won't feel as solid as premium options. If you need something temporary or you're furnishing a rental, they're sensible. If you want a frame to last 10+ years, spending $400–700 gets better longevity.
