A fitness bench is the single most-used piece of equipment in any home gym — you use it for bench press, dumbbell rows, step-ups, tricep dips, shoulder press, and dozens of accessory lifts. Our range covers flat fitness benches, adjustable incline/decline benches, Olympic flat benches, foldable storage benches, and weighted bench combo packages. Over 25 fitness benches in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $100 simple flat benches to $500 commercial-grade adjustable benches. Most orders dispatch within 1–2 business days.
What's the difference between a flat and adjustable bench?
A flat bench has a fixed horizontal pad — only suits flat-position exercises like flat bench press, dumbbell rows, and floor work. It's rigid, simple and the cheapest option ($100–250 range). An adjustable bench tilts to multiple positions — typically a flat setting, 2–4 incline positions (15°, 30°, 45°, 60° or similar), and sometimes 1–2 decline positions. This adds incline dumbbell press, shoulder press, incline rows, decline crunches and many more exercises. The price difference is around 50–80% — $250–500 for adjustable. The mechanical adjustment introduces a tiny amount of wobble vs a rigid flat bench, which only matters at very heavy loads (150kg+ bench press). For most home users, adjustable is the better long-term choice.

| Adjustable bench (incline + decline) | Maximum versatility | 250–350kg | $250–$500 |

What should I look for in a quality bench?
Six things separate good benches from cheap ones. First, weight rating — should be at least 50% above your maximum lift (a 100kg bench presser needs a 200kg+ rated bench). Second, frame steel — thicker tubing (50mm+ square) is more rigid than thin-walled steel. Third, adjustment mechanism — ladder-style adjusters with steel pins are more reliable than pop-pin friction adjusters. Fourth, pad density — 7–9cm of dense foam doesn't bottom out under heavy loads; cheaper foam compresses and feels lumpy after a year. Fifth, pad width — 25–30cm wide is stable for bench press; narrower (20cm) suits rows but feels unstable on heavy presses. Sixth, feet — rubber feet prevent floor damage and stop the bench sliding on hardwood or tile floors.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Weight rating: 50%+ above your max bench plus bodyweight
- Frame thickness: 50mm+ square steel tubing for stability
- Pad density: 7–9cm dense foam; doesn't compress under load
- Pad width: 25–30cm for bench press stability
- Adjustment positions: 5+ angles on adjustable benches
- Rubber feet: Floor protection and anti-slip
- Foldability: Useful in small spaces; adds complexity
How heavy can I go on a home gym bench?
The bench's weight rating includes both the lifter and the loaded barbell — a common source of confusion. A bench rated to 300kg total handles a 100kg lifter benching 200kg, which is well beyond most amateur lifters. For most home users benching 60–120kg, any bench rated 250kg+ is sufficient. For serious lifters approaching 150kg+ bench, look at Olympic competition benches rated 500kg+ with reinforced welds and thicker frame steel. Buying a bench rated to your current max lift is a mistake — you'll outgrow it as you progress. Aim for the next level up from where you are.
What most fitness stores won't admit
Almost every fitness bench sold online in Australia is imported from China — including ours. The real difference is not where the bench is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: bench pad foam compresses faster than most lifters expect. A bench that feels firm and supportive in the first month develops a permanent indent in the lifter's shoulder position within 12–18 months of regular use. Cheap pads compress to half their original height within a year. The fix is buying benches with high-density foam (look for the foam density spec; 35kg+ per m³ is durable). Quality foam costs an extra $30–80 per bench but lasts 3–5 years versus 1–2 for cheap foam. Across the bench's life, it's the cheapest upgrade you can make.
Frequently asked questions
What if my fitness bench arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with flat-pack benches; check the pad cover and frame welds on receipt.
How long does assembly take?
Flat benches: 15–30 minutes. Adjustable benches: 30–60 minutes. Bench-and-rack combos: 60–90 minutes for one person. Tools and instructions are included.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $300 bench works out to four payments of $75 with Afterpay, four payments of $75 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $25 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unassembled benches in original packaging.
Complete the home gym setup
A fitness bench anchors the strength work, and a few pieces round out a complete setup. Most lifters add three at the same time: a weights set with dumbbells or barbell and plates, a squat rack for heavier lifts with safety bars, and gym accessories for flooring and storage.
