Kids' bikes and karts get children outside, build balance and coordination, and replace screen time with something physical. Our range covers balance bikes for toddlers, training-wheel bikes for early riders, pedal go-karts, and ride-on tricycles — from $80 balance bikes to $400 larger karts. We hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days.
What size bike does my child need?
Kids' bikes are sized by wheel diameter, not by age, because kids of the same age vary in height by 20–30cm. Match the wheel size to your child's inseam (inside leg measurement from crotch to floor in shoes). A 12-inch wheel suits 40–50cm inseam (ages 2–4). A 14-inch suits 45–55cm (ages 3–5). A 16-inch suits 50–60cm (ages 4–6). A 20-inch suits 60–70cm (ages 6–9). Always check the inseam range on the product page — buying "to grow into" usually means a bike too big to control safely.
What types of kids' bikes and karts are available?
| Type | Best for | Age range | Price guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balance bike | Learning to balance | 18m–4yr | $80–$150 |
| Training-wheel bike | Early riders | 3–6yr | $100–$250 |
| BMX-style bike | Older kids | 6–10yr | $150–$350 |
| Pedal go-kart | Driveway riding | 3–8yr | $150–$400 |
| Tricycle or trike | Toddlers | 18m–4yr | $80–$180 |
Balance bike or training wheels?
Balance bikes teach kids to balance first, then add pedalling later — most balance bike riders move to a pedal bike around age 4 without ever using training wheels. Training-wheel bikes teach pedalling first with stabilisers, then the child has to relearn balance when the wheels come off, which is usually a frustrating few weeks. If your child is under 4 and you are starting fresh, balance bikes are the easier path. If they are 5 or 6 and have not learned yet, jumping straight to a pedal bike with training wheels (then removing them) still works fine. The two paths reach the same end; balance bikes just skip the relearn step.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Inseam measurement: Match to bike wheel size, not just age
- Seat height: Both feet should reach the ground for beginners
- Weight: A heavy bike is harder for a small child to control
- Brakes: Hand brakes for ages 5+; coaster (back-pedal) brakes for younger
- Helmet: Mandatory in Australia and saves hospital visits
- Assembly: Most bikes ship 80% assembled, with handlebars and wheels to fit
Are pedal go-karts safe?
Pedal go-karts are safer than bikes in two ways — they cannot tip over, and the child cannot fall off. But they introduce different risks: kids can run them into walls, fences, or down sloping driveways at speed. Steering is generally limited to keep turns gentle, but karts on a slope build up speed fast. Use them on flat surfaces, away from steep driveways and roads. Most karts handle 30–50kg, so check the weight rating against your child. Pneumatic tyres roll better but can puncture; solid foam tyres last longer but feel rougher.
How much do kids' bikes and karts cost in Australia?
Kids' bikes and karts at Simple Deals start from $80 for balance bikes and basic trikes. Most standard training-wheel and BMX-style bikes sit between $100 and $250, with larger pedal karts running higher. All units dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most sites won't admit
Almost every kids' bike sold online in Australia is imported from China or Taiwan — including ours. The real difference is not where the bike is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: assembly quality. Kids' bikes ship 80% assembled, with the buyer fitting handlebars, front wheel and pedals. The bolt torque matters — under-tightened handlebars rotate forward in the first fall, and over-tightened bolts strip the threads. If you are not confident assembling a bike, most local bike shops will check and tighten everything for $20–40. It is the single best safety investment you can make.
Frequently asked questions
What if my bike arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with boxed kids' bikes.
How long does assembly take?
Balance bikes: 10–15 minutes. Pedal bikes: 30–45 minutes. Pedal karts: 60–90 minutes. Tools and instructions are included.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $200 bike works out to four payments of $50 with Afterpay, four payments of $50 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $17 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unassembled bikes in original packaging.
Complete the ride setup
A bike or kart handles outdoor riding, and a few pieces round out the kids' wheels. Most parents add three at the same time: a scooter for footpath riding, a skateboard for older kids, and a ride-on car for younger siblings.
