Baby Monitors

A baby monitor gives you ears — and on some models, eyes — on your sleeping baby from elsewhere in the house. Our range covers audio-only monitors, video monitors with night vision, smart Wi-Fi monitors viewable on your phone, and split-screen monitors for twins or multiple children. Baby monitors from $80, with most video monitors between $120 and $300. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days.

Audio or video monitor — which one do I actually need?

Both work, but they suit different homes and sleeping arrangements. Audio-only monitors are simpler, cheaper, and have longer battery life on the parent unit. They suit smaller houses where you can also hear the baby through the wall but want a louder, clearer signal. Video monitors add a small screen so you can see the baby without entering the room, useful for confirming whether a noise is genuine wake-up or settling. Smart Wi-Fi monitors stream to your phone, which suits parents already accustomed to phone-based checking but means you are tied to your phone and your home Wi-Fi. For most first-time parents, a dedicated video monitor with night vision strikes the right balance.

What types of baby monitors are available?

Type Best for Range Price guide
Audio-only Smaller homes 200–300m $80–$150
Video with screen Most homes 200–300m $120–$300
Smart Wi-Fi (phone app) Tech-friendly homes Anywhere with internet $150–$400
Split-screen / twin Multiple children 200–300m $200–$450
Movement / breathing monitor Added reassurance Bedside $150–$400

How far does a baby monitor work over?

Dedicated baby monitors (with their own radio link, not Wi-Fi) usually claim 200–300 metres of open-air range. The reality in a typical Australian home is around 30–50 metres through internal walls and floors, which covers the average house, garage and backyard. Two-storey houses sometimes have weak spots between the top floor and the laundry below — if the monitor drops signal, the parent unit beeps. Smart Wi-Fi monitors use your home internet, so range is effectively unlimited as long as the camera has Wi-Fi and your phone has signal. The trade-off is dependency on home internet uptime.

Quick buyer's checklist

  • Audio quality: Clear voice, not just static; check reviews for sound
  • Night vision: Infrared lets you see in a dark nursery
  • Battery life: Parent unit should run 8+ hours on a charge
  • Two-way talk: Lets you soothe baby without entering the room
  • Temperature sensor: Useful in summer for nursery temperature
  • Privacy: Encrypted signal on dedicated monitors; check Wi-Fi monitor security

Are smart Wi-Fi baby monitors secure?

Most reputable Wi-Fi baby monitors encrypt their video stream and require a password to access. The risks come from poor setup rather than the device itself: factory-default passwords left unchanged, weak Wi-Fi passwords, or accessing the monitor on public Wi-Fi. Set up the monitor on your home Wi-Fi only, change the default password to something strong, and use two-factor authentication if the app offers it. If you want to avoid Wi-Fi entirely, choose a dedicated radio-link monitor — these use their own encrypted frequency and never connect to the internet.

How much do baby monitors cost in Australia?

Baby monitors at Simple Deals start from $80 for audio-only units. Most video monitors with night vision sit between $120 and $300, with smart Wi-Fi monitors and twin split-screen units running higher. All monitors dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.

What most sites won't admit

Almost every baby monitor sold online in Australia is imported from China — including ours. The real difference is not where the monitor is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.

The other thing nobody mentions: monitors are not a substitute for cot safety. A monitor lets you check the baby; it does not prevent SIDS or accidents. The basics of safe sleep (firm flat mattress, no loose bedding, baby on back, room temperature 20–22°C) prevent far more harm than any monitor catches after the fact. Buy a monitor for convenience and reassurance, not as the main safety measure.

Frequently asked questions

What if my baby monitor arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with packaged monitors.

Does the monitor work without Wi-Fi?
Dedicated radio-link monitors (audio and most video monitors with their own screen) work without Wi-Fi. Smart Wi-Fi monitors require home internet to function.

How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.

Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $200 monitor works out to four payments of $50 with Afterpay, four payments of $50 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $17 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.

What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unused monitors in original packaging.

Complete the nursery setup

A baby monitor handles the watch, and a few pieces round out the nursery. Most parents add three at the same time: a cot for sleep, a night light for night feeds, and a sleeping bag for safer sleep.
