Aussie 4WDers know what happens at 9pm on a corrugated dirt track when the factory headlights show you 40 metres of road and nothing else. Our range covers LED light bars, driving lights, work lights, pods, and reversing lights for 4WD, ute and truck. LED lights from $99, with most quality light bars between $149 and $899. Stock is held across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, dispatching within 1–2 business days.
Are LED light bars legal in Australia?
Yes on private property and off-road. On public roads, they must be off when other vehicles are within 200m ahead, and they cannot be wired to come on with the standard headlights unless properly separated. Some states require an additional switch clearly labelled. Rules vary by state — check with VicRoads, TMR, RMS or your state road authority before wiring. Fitting a light bar is legal in every state; using it on-road has restrictions everywhere. The rule of thumb is simple: light bars are for off-road driving, not overtaking on the highway.
What types of automotive LED lights are available?
| Type | Best for | Beam | Price guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-row light bar (20–30") | Roof or bar-mount, general 4WD | Combo | $149–$399 |
| Dual-row light bar (40"+) | Serious distance, remote touring | Combo | $399–$899 |
| Round driving lights (pair) | Bull bar, high-lux distance | Spot | $299–$699 |
| LED pods (4x cube) | Reverse, side-scanning, ditch | Flood | $99–$249 |
| LED work light | Camp, boat trailer, tray | Flood | $39–$149 |
Do LED driving lights need a relay?
Any light drawing more than about 4 amps should be wired through a relay. Most 20"+ light bars pull 10–15 amps. Running that through the dash switch directly will melt the switch. Relay kits with fuse, wiring loom and switch cost $25–$45 and take about an hour to fit. If you are running two lights (a bar and a pair of driving lights), use two separate relays or a purpose-built dual-output kit — this keeps the amp draw manageable per circuit and lets you switch them independently.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Lux at distance: How far the light actually reaches — meaningful; lumens alone are not
- IP rating: IP67 or IP68 for river crossings; less will fog inside after the first wet trip
- Mounting bracket: Stainless or thick aluminium; plastic snaps on corrugations
- Beam pattern: Spot for distance, flood for scanning, combo for both
- Amp draw: Check your relay and wiring loom can handle it
- Colour temperature: 5000–6000K; higher hurts visibility in dust and fog
How many lumens do I need for a 4WD light bar?
For touring at highway speed on rural roads, aim for a light with 500m+ 1-lux distance — usually 15,000–25,000 effective lumens. For slow-speed off-road scanning, a wider beam with 8,000–15,000 lumens works better. Do not buy on raw lumens alone. A 30,000-lumen bar with a bad reflector is worse than a 15,000-lumen bar with a good one. The spec that matters is how many lumens reach the road 200 metres ahead of you, not how many the LED chip produces at source.
How much do LED lights cost in Australia?
LED automotive lights at Simple Deals start from $99 for LED pods and cube kits. Most quality light bars sit between $149 and $899, with round driving lights from $299 to $699, and work lights from $39 to $149. All items dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most sites won't admit
Almost every LED light bar sold in Australia is assembled in China from Cree, Osram or generic LED chips — including ours across the range. The real difference is not where the light is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody explains is that raw lumens is a misleading headline spec. A cheap 300W bar might genuinely put out 30,000 raw lumens at the LED chip. By the time that light reaches the road 200 metres in front of you, the effective illumination is a fraction of what a better-designed 200W bar delivers. Real-world reach is measured in lux at distance — how much light actually lands on the road at 500m. If a light-bar page only shows lumens and not lux at distance, they are hiding what matters.
Frequently asked questions
What if my LED light arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon with boxed lights.
Can I fit an LED light bar myself?
Yes, if you are comfortable with basic auto electrical work. Roof-mount, nudge-bar and bull-bar mounting brackets are common. Wiring through a relay kit with fuse and switch takes about an hour. If the mounting requires drilling into structural body panels, factor a professional install.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $499 dual-row light bar works out to four payments of $124.75 with Afterpay, four payments of $124.75 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $42 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unopened lights in original packaging.
Complete the 4WD build
Lights are one part of the touring kit. A few things go with them. Most 4WDers add three at the same time: a winch for recovery, an air compressor for tyre pressure work, and outdoor storage boxes for recovery gear on the tray.
