Washing machines and dryers cover the full laundry setup for any Australian household — front-load, top-load, portable washers, heat-pump dryers, condenser dryers and vented dryers, plus washer-dryer combos. Our range covers front-load washing machines (6kg–9kg), top-load washing machines (6.5kg–10kg), portable mini washers for apartments, heat-pump and condenser dryers (7kg–9kg), vented tumble dryers, and 2-in-1 washer-dryer combos. Over 200 washing machines and dryers in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $300 portable washers to $1,800 premium 9kg front-load machines. Most orders dispatch within 1–2 business days.
Front-load or top-load — which is right for me?
Front-load washers use 40–50% less water and 25–40% less energy than top-load equivalents, wash clothes more gently, and spin faster (reducing dryer time). They cost $100–300 more upfront but the running cost savings recoup that in 18–24 months for a family of four. The downsides are a longer cycle time (45–90 minutes vs 30–60 for top-load), the need to bend down to load (worth considering for taller users or older Australians), and the front-door seal needing wiping after every wash to prevent mould. Top-loaders are faster, easier on the back, and cheaper, but use more water and detergent. For most households doing 5+ loads per week, front-load wins the value calculation over 8–12 years of ownership.
What washing machines and dryers are available?
| Type | Best for | Capacity | Price guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front-load washing machine | Family, water saving | 7–9kg | $500–$1,500 |
| Top-load washing machine | Faster cycles, easier loading | 6.5–10kg | $400–$1,200 |
| Portable mini washer | Apartments, students | 3–6kg | $200–$500 |
| Heat-pump dryer | Energy efficient, gentle | 7–9kg | $1,000–$1,800 |
| Condenser dryer | Mid-range, no venting needed | 7–9kg | $700–$1,200 |
| Vented tumble dryer | Budget, needs vent | 5–7kg | $400–$700 |
| Washer-dryer combo | Small spaces, one unit | 6–8kg | $800–$1,500 |
What capacity do I need?
Match washer kg to household size with a small margin. 6–6.5kg handles 1–2 adults; 7–7.5kg handles couples and families of 3; 8–8.5kg handles families of 4; 9kg+ handles families of 5+ or anyone washing bulky bedding (king-size sheets, doonas). Going one size up from your minimum means lighter loads run more efficiently and the machine lasts longer. Going undersized means cramming the drum (which strains the motor and bearings, shortening lifespan) or running more cycles per week (more wear-and-tear). For dryers, match capacity to the washer — a 7kg washer matches a 7kg dryer. Combo washer-dryers wash at full capacity but typically dry at half capacity, so a 7kg combo only dries 3.5kg per cycle.
Quick buyer's checklist
- Energy and water rating: Higher stars save 20–40% on bills over 8–12 years
- Spin speed: 1200–1400rpm for front load; faster spin = less dryer time
- Capacity: 7–8kg covers most family laundry; 9kg+ for large households
- Plumbing: Most need a cold water tap, drain hose to standpipe, 10A power
- Dimensions: Standard 60cm width and 85cm height; measure access door clearance
- Noise level: Under 50dB for living-area installations; matters for open-plan
Heat-pump dryer vs condenser dryer — worth the extra spend?
Heat-pump dryers use 50–60% less energy than condenser dryers and 70%+ less than vented dryers. The catch is the upfront cost: a heat-pump dryer runs $1,000–1,800 vs $700–1,200 for a condenser of the same capacity. The running cost savings are real — around $80–120 per year for a family using the dryer 4–6 times per week — but recovering a $400–500 price premium takes 4–6 years. For high-use households (winter cities like Melbourne and Hobart where the dryer runs 100+ cycles per year), heat-pump dryers are the long-term value. For coastal warm-climate households that air-dry most loads and only use the dryer occasionally, a condenser dryer is the practical choice. Vented dryers are cheapest but require a vent to outside — not always possible in apartments.
How much do washing machines and dryers cost in Australia?
Washing machines and dryers at Simple Deals start from $300 for portable mini washers. Most family-sized front-load and top-load washers sit between $500 and $1,200, with heat-pump dryers and 9kg machines running higher. All washing machines and dryers dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most appliance stores won't admit
Almost every washing machine and dryer sold in Australia is made in Asia — typically China, Korea or Thailand — including ours. Even premium brand-name machines (Samsung, LG, Bosch) are manufactured in those regions and shipped to Australia. The real difference is not where the appliance is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: most washing machine failures within the first 5–7 years come from one preventable cause — overloading. The drum capacity rating assumes loose laundry that can tumble freely; when cramming clothes to the door, the motor and bearings work 30–50% harder per cycle. Modern washing machines tolerate occasional overloading but daily overloading wears the drum bearings, which are the most expensive single repair (typically $400–700 in parts and labour). Buying one size up from your usual load size (8kg if you typically wash 6kg) doubles the life of the machine in practical terms.
Frequently asked questions
What if my washing machine or dryer arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We will arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Major appliances ship on pallets; check the carton for visible damage before signing the delivery docket.
Do you install washing machines or dryers?
Delivery is to your door only. Installation requires water connection (washing machine) or vent connection (vented dryer) and is best handled by a licensed plumber for warranty reasons. Heat-pump and condenser dryers don't need vents and can be plugged in by anyone.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days. Heavy appliances take 1–2 days longer due to freight handling.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $900 washing machine works out to four payments of $225 with Afterpay, four payments of $225 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $75 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unused appliances in original packaging. Motor and compressor warranties listed separately on the product page — often 5–10 years.
Complete the laundry setup
A washer and dryer cover the wash, and a few pieces round out the laundry room. Most households add three at the same time: a laundry storage set for clothes hampers and drying racks, an iron or steamer for finishing, and other appliances like a dishwasher for the next kitchen upgrade.
