Inflatable playgrounds give kids a safe space to bounce, slide and burn off energy in the backyard, without the cost of a permanent set-up. Our range covers bouncy castles, water slides, ball pits, jumping castles with slides, and combo inflatables that mix several play activities in one. Most pack down to a carry bag when not in use, so they don't dominate the yard year-round. We hold over 100 inflatable play products in stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, from $50 ball pits to $500 large bouncy castles with slides.
What size inflatable do I need for my backyard?
Measure the flat lawn area you have before ordering — most parents underestimate this. An inflatable needs its own footprint plus at least 1.5m of clear space on every side for safe landings and adult supervision access. A 2.5m x 2.5m bouncy castle therefore needs at least a 5.5m x 5.5m clear area. The other check most sellers leave out: vertical clearance. Bouncy castles with arches reach 2.5–3m tall, which means low-hanging branches, washing lines or pergolas will tear the fabric. Always measure both ground area and height clearance.
What types of inflatable playgrounds are available?
Inflatable play splits into a few main categories, each suited to different ages and yard sizes:
| Type | Best for | Price guide | Setup time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bouncy castle | Ages 3–10 | $150–$400 | 5–10 min |
| Water slide | Ages 4–12, summer | $80–$300 | 5–10 min |
| Ball pit | Ages 1–4 | $50–$150 | 2–5 min |
| Combo with slide | Ages 4–10 | $200–$500 | 10–15 min |
| Pool with slide | Ages 3–8 | $100–$280 | 5–10 min |
How long do inflatable playgrounds last?
The fabric thickness decides lifespan, and this is the detail most listings hide. Budget inflatables use 0.4mm PVC that punctures from grass, sticks and toy edges within a season. Quality units use 0.6–0.8mm reinforced PVC that lasts 3–5 seasons of regular use. Always check the PVC thickness on the product page. The blower is the other failure point — included blowers are usually 350–450W and run continuously while in use. Spare blowers cost $40–60 if needed. Stored deflated in a dry place between uses, a quality inflatable easily lasts past the kids' interest in it.
Buyer's checklist
- Ground area: footprint plus 1.5m clearance on every side
- Vertical clearance: check branches, washing lines, pergolas
- PVC thickness: 0.6mm or more for multiple seasons
- Age rating: match to your child's age and weight
- Blower wattage and warranty
- Weight rating per jumper and total capacity
- Stake or anchor points for wind protection
Are inflatable playgrounds safe for kids?
Inflatables are safe when set up properly and supervised. The biggest risks come from setup shortcuts: no ground stakes (the unit can flip in wind over 25km/h), over-crowding (more jumpers than the rated capacity), and hard items inside (shoes, glasses, drink bottles). Australian Standard AS 3533.4.1 covers commercial inflatables and requires four-point anchoring. For home use, the same principle applies — every unit ships with ground stakes; use them every time. Never leave the blower running unattended around small children, and deflate fully if wind picks up.
What about water slide inflatables?
Water slide inflatables connect to a garden hose and turn the backyard into a kids' splash park for an afternoon. The water flow is usually 8–15 litres per minute through a perimeter spray bar — worth keeping in mind if running for hours. Most need a flat, soft landing zone at the base, which is why the manuals recommend grass, not concrete or pavers. A water-rated PVC inflatable handles repeated wet and dry cycles; a "dry use only" bouncy castle will mould inside if used wet, so always check the rating before splashing.
How much do inflatable playgrounds cost in Australia?
Inflatable play products at Simple Deals start from $50 for compact ball pits. Most bouncy castles and water slides sit between $150 and $400, with larger combo castles and commercial-style units at the higher end. All units dispatch within 1–2 business days from our Australian warehouses.
What most sites won't admit
Almost every inflatable playground sold online in Australia is imported from China — including ours. The real difference is not where the unit is made, it's what happens after it lands in Australia. Marketplaces dropship straight from overseas containers, which is why "fast delivery" stretches into six weeks. We import in bulk, hold stock across our Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane warehouses, and ship from there.
The other thing nobody mentions: blower noise. Continuous blowers run at 70–80 decibels — loud enough that some councils restrict their use after 7pm. Check your local noise bylaws if backyard parties run late.
Frequently asked questions
What if my inflatable arrives damaged?
Contact us within 7 days with photos. We'll arrange a replacement or refund under the 12-month warranty. Transit damage is uncommon since inflatables ship flat-packed.
How do I patch a punctured inflatable?
Most units come with a small repair kit (PVC patch and adhesive). Larger tears need professional repair — cost is usually $40–80 from a pool or inflatable repair shop.
How long does delivery take?
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane: 3–5 business days. Perth and Adelaide: 5–8 days. Regional and remote areas: 7–14 days.
Can I pay with Afterpay, Zip or PayPal?
Yes, all three. A $300 inflatable works out to four payments of $75 with Afterpay, four payments of $75 with PayPal Pay in 4, or roughly $25 a month with Zip over 12 months. Klarna is also available.
What's the warranty?
12 months on manufacturing defects, plus 15-day returns on unopened items in original packaging.
Complete the kids' setup
An inflatable handles the active play, and a few pieces complete the backyard. Most parents add three at the same time: a slide for everyday use, a sand pit for quieter outdoor play, and a cubby house for shaded pretend play.
